With a new year ahead and new opportunities for reo revitalisation kaupapa on the horizon, we have opened registrations for our 2025-2026 Investment Round.

I puea ake te hōnore nui ki Te Mātāwai, mōna i hoki ki Taiwana ki te tuku kauhau ki te Austronesian Languages Forum ki te whakatakoto i ētahi kōrero e pā ana ki te whakarauoratanga o te reo Māori.

Kua pānuitia e te Tumu Whakarae mō Te Mātāwai, e Poia Rewi, ka heke ia i tōna tūranga mahi hei te Māehe 2025; kua whā tau me te hāwhe ia e noho nei hei kaihautū i te waka whakaūkaipō i te reo Māori ki ngā iwi me ngā whānau Māori.

Te Mātāwai appeared before the Māori Affairs Select Committee, taking the opportunity to brief the mostly new MPs about our mahi for iwi Māori as an Independent Entity, and give a preview to our new Statement of Intent 2024 -2027.

I’m still buzzing after our hui-ā-tau Komiti Kaha: Mouri Reo, Mouri Ora event, held in Ngāmotu on 13-14 September. It is important the Board, Tari, Kaitono and Pae Motuhake can come together to share our efforts to make te reo Māori strong – i ngā piki me ngā heke.

A Te Reo Māori Trauma Literature Review, prepared by Dr. Raukura Roa and Professor Tom Roa, explores the concept of trauma associated with the Māori language.

Socialising our new te reo Māori strategic vision is a key focus for Te Mātāwai this year, with engagement underway with our Pae Motuhake reo champions and Māori communities.

Matakana, the sheltering island of the Tauranga Harbour, is also a sheltered haven for kaumātua and tamariki to learn te reo Māori as a whānau and community.  

Te Mātātupu, the research team at Te Mātāwai, is excited to be making improvements to our Pre and Post Surveys, a data tool for reo revitalisation.
