A community concert in Rotorua, Te Wiki parades and events in Kaikohe, Gisborne, Whanganui, Wellington and Ōtautahi – planning for Te Wiki o te Reo Māori is ramping up around Aotearoa!
Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori and Te Mātāwai are proud to announce the next phase of Te Wiki is up and running on reomāori.co.nz. An interactive map, localised logos and funding for local activations are ready to go for Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, 14-20 September 2026.
Interactive map
A new interactive map on reomaori.co.nz lets you upload the events being planned in your town so more of your community can join in the celebrations this September. Looking for inspiration? Check out your town to see what’s underway.
Schools, workplaces, community groups, sports clubs and businesses are encouraged to register their own events and become part of the nationwide celebration.
Your town, your way
This year, communities can also show their support by downloading a customised 'Te Reo Towns' logo featuring the name of their very own town or city. The logos are available on reomaori.co.nz. They offer an easy way for whānau, kura, marae, organisations, businesses and community groups to proudly represent their local connection to Te Wiki, and celebrate te reo Māori.
Get creative and utilise your town’s unique logo to create merchandise like hoodies, t-shirts, posters or flags – the possibilities are endless! Just remember, it’s not for making money it’s for sharing your support.
Activation Fund recipients
To help bring this year's theme 'Te Reo Towns' to life, several community groups and local organisations have received support through the Te Reo Towns Activation Fund. This way they have a bit of extra support to celebrate te reo in their town, their way.
"Te reo Māori grows stronger when it's seen, heard and spoken in our everyday lives”, says Ngahiwi Apanui-Barr, Chief Executive of Te Taura Whiri.
“Through the Fund, we're supporting communities to bring their own ideas to life and create spaces where people can connect with te reo Māori together at a local level."
“Whether you’re in Kaitaia, Bluff, or anywhere in between, Te Wiki o te Reo Māori is a chance to amplify our beautiful reo in ways that are unique to your Tāone Reo Māori”, says Te Mātāwai Co-Chair Mātai Smith.
“From kī-o-rahi tournaments to kapa haka concerts to reo Māori exercise classes, we’re excited to see hapori come together across Aotearoa to show their aroha and commitment for our Indigenous language.”
Check out the successful applicants.
Join in online
For people who can’t attend events in-person, our lunchtime Te Wiki webinar series is back for 2026.
Across four days, hear from inspiring guests who are helping to normalise and strengthen te reo Māori in everyday life. From grassroots sporting communities and intergenerational language revitalisation to business leadership and storytelling on screen, these conversations will explore the many ways communities are contributing to a vibrant future for te reo Māori.
"Te Wiki o te Reo Māori is about making te reo Māori valued in every community. Whether you're joining a town parade, attending a local event, downloading your town logo, or logging into a webinar, there's a way for everyone to show their love for te reo because te reo Māori is for everyone", Ngahiwi says.
