Investment Round 2026-27 application deadline extended

Kaitono are reminded to get their kaupapa reo applications in for the 2026-27 Investment Round by 5pm on 31 March 2026 after the deadline was extended following extreme weather events.

The unanimous Te Mātāwai Board decision to extend the investment round was due to the devastating weather that hit communities this summer. Our Kāhui in; Mātaatua, Te Tairāwhiti, Te Tai Tokerau, Tainui, Te Arawa and Te Tai Hau-ā-uru were particularly affected.

Acting Tumu Whakarae, Toko Kapea says the impact on homes, livelihoods and hapori capacity has greatly affected the ability of whānau to participate fully in the Investment Round.

“Our Kāhui are bastions for te reo Māori revitalisation. It’s important to Te Mātāwai that the te reo champions on the ground have sufficient time to apply,” he says.

As of today, over 450 people have started applications, and over 50 people have submitted applications. This year, we also received 311 new registrations.

Our Pae Motuhake have been busy hosting Hui Whakamōhio around the motu to help whānau Māori make strong applications for their reo Māori initiatives.

“Kaitono can visit our new website Haumitanga | Te Mātāwai to apply, to read Kāhui investment plans and criteria, and to learn more about our investment programme,” Toko says.
