RaRau Mai
Whānau are finding joy in advancing their reo Māori skills through art at weekly RaRau Mai classes in Te Papaioea (Palmerston North). RaRau Mai is for tamariki and their whānau who are committed to using te reo Māori at home and want to expand their language use by creating art together. It is the brainchild of Tania Te Tau, a trained Kōhanga Reo teacher, and Karangawai Marsh, an adult reo Māori kaiako and artist. “RaRau Mai has really come out of that need in our community to have spaces to go to be immersed in te reo Māori,” says Tania Te Tau. The class is oversubscribed and 10 different whānau attend with all kids in Kōhanga Reo or Kura Kaupapa.
