What We Do

We help kāinga, hapori and iwi to pursue their own Māori language aspirations.

Te Mātāwai encourages kāinga, hapori and iwi to identify, pursue and fulfil their own Māori language aspirations through our investment programme, building a strong knowledge base and demonstrating leadership to support the revitalisation of the Māori language.

Te Mātāuru – Investment Programme

We invest in opportunities to support Māori language revitalisation among kāinga, hapori and iwi. Every year, investment rounds seek applications that align with Kāhui investment plans and the goals of the Maihi Māori strategy.

Te Mātātupu – Research, Evaluations and Insights

We seek to gather and share information to inform best practice for Māori language revitalisation among kāinga, hapori and iwi. We also report on our progress towards achieving outcomes in the Maihi Māori strategy.

Te Matatū – Leadership

We advocate and provide advice to ensure policy, systems and Māori-language-related settings best support the revitalisation of the Māori language and the goals and aspirations of kāinga, hapori and iwi, in collaboration with our Maihi Karauna(external link) partners.

Te Matatuku – Operational Effectiveness

We work to ensure that our Board, the Pae Motuhake and staff are supported to operate smoothly and deliver a seamless service for kāinga, hapori and iwi.
