We offer the following Statement of Intent to all our whānau and Māori language communities. It will help keep us on track as we navigate the coming years, while also acknowledging how far we have come together. In this document we lay out a te reo Māori revitalisation plan for the next four years and beyond as an ocean journey – guided by the stars and influenced by the currents.
A core development since our last Statement of Intent (2021–2024) is the shift from five broad focus areas to the two key priorities of Tukuihotanga – deliberate intergenerational transmission, and Hononga Hapori Reo – connecting language speaker groups. This strategic shift enables Te Mātāwai to realign our outputs with the longterm goals of the Maihi Māori.
